Florissant woman gets 23-year sentence after hit & run

FLORISSANT, Mo -- A Florissant woman, Tiffany Kanzler, has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for her involvement in an incident that occurred in January 2022. During the incident, Kanzler hit a Saint Charles County sheriff's deputy with her car and subsequently led law enforcement on a five-mile chase.The encounter began when officers attempted to pull over the 29-year-old near Fifth Street in Saint Charles. However, Kanzler resisted and tried to run, resulting in striking the sheriff's deputy and his vehicle in the process. The deputy suffered a broken pelvis and a broken ankle.Kanzler faced several charges and was ultimately convicted of second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, and property damage.

Grand County’s Devil’s Thumb fire now 76% contained, smoke expected through fall

The Devil’s Thumb Fire, which has been burning on land northeast of Fraser in Grand County since July 4, reached 76% containment Thursday, officials said.The wildfire broke out after lightning struck near the Devil’s Thumb Trailhead on July 4 and has since grown to 81 acres, according to fire officials. Human remains were found along the South Platte River Thursday, officials from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office said.At 6 p.m., deputies responded to a report of human remains found alongside the river in the area of 120th Avenue and Riverdale Road, near Henderson, according to a tweet from the sheriff’s office.At 6 PM Deputies received a call of human remains found along the South Platte River in the area of 120th & Riverdale Rd. Fines begin on I-70 mountain express lanes after 5,600 drivers receive warnings for skirting rules

Colorado on Friday will begin fining drivers $75 for using the Interstate 70 express lanes in the mountains when they’re closed or weaving in and out to get around traffic, among other violations.During a new safety enforcement program’s month-long grace period, more than 5,600 drivers received warnings in the mail after they were detected using an automated system of cameras and sensors, the Colorado Department of Transportation says. Now drivers who receive notices will have to pay the fine, which increases to $150 after 20 days.“The number of warnings issued during the grace period is extremely concerning,” CDOT spokesman Tim Hoover said in a news release. “We don’t want to see so many people get fines — we just want roadway users to follow the express lane rules so everybody can get to their destinations safely.”The express toll lanes occupy the narrow left shoulder on each side of I-70 along a 13-mile corridor from Empire to east of Idaho Springs. ...

Three companies looking at El Paso County for 1,061 jobs snagged approvals for $13.1 million in state economic development incentives, while Boulder County could see another 500 jobs from the expansion of an existing aerospace company.The Colorado Economic Development Commission approved the awards on Thursday morning.Project Bullseye, which is looking to add 620 new aerospace jobs in El Paso County, received the largest award at $7.5 million in Job Growth Incentive Tax Credits. Those credits are awarded over an eight-year period for any jobs created and can offset future state tax obligations.The jobs, heavy on software and systems engineers, would pay an average annual wage of $160,484, which is 266% of the county’s average. In the first six months of its pay-as-you-throw trash program, Denver saw a 3% uptick in the amount of waste being diverted away from its landfill. But the biggest change to how Denver handles refuse — free citywide compost service that could redirect everything from banana peels to tree limbs to a composting facility — is only now ready to start rolling out to residents.City officials have high hopes for what the service changes will mean for landfill diversion rates and greenhouse gas emissions in the long term, but most Denverites should sit tight with the size trash bins they have now, those same officials caution. Search for missing hiker in Monrovia continues

Authorities in Monrovia are continuing their search for a hiker who went missing in Monrovia Canyon Park. Colin Walker, 53, was last seen on security video from a nearby home walking towards the park’s trailhead around 6 a.m. Sunday morning. Colin Walker as seen in an undated photo. All lanes closed after semi-truck collides with metal pipe on 134 freeway, spills fuel

A semi-truck smashed into a metal pipe in the roadway on the 134 Freeway on Monday morning. The incident occurred on the eastbound span of the 134 Freeway at the interchange with the 2 Freeway near Eagle Rock.  The collision caused a fuel spill and left large chunks of debris in the roadway, and a SigAlert was issued after the fuel tank was ruptured by the debris.  Caltrans workers were seen clearing the debris around 5 a.m. on Friday, July 21, 2023.
